Design

Design of all shade structures requires an appropriate attention to detail to ensure that the structure will satisfy the requirements of the client and site specific needs such as a shade audit

Factors such as shade only or fully weatherproof, shade coverage, shape and form, connections to adjacent structures, light transmission, thermal performance, fire rating, longevity, acoustics, exposure to vandalism, maintenance, warranties and budget all require consideration to develop a suitable solution for our client’s consideration.

Tension structures should be designed in accordance with the requirements of  Building Codes and Standards. Due to their light weight nature proper attention needs to be paid to wind loads in particular.

Three dimensional tension shade structures are a complicated engineering form, manufactured from a combination of materials including the fabric that exhibits unusual anisotropic behaviour and requires specialist non-linear large deflection software to model their behaviour accurately.

Oasis and its engineers can offer complete design service taking into proper consideration all the complexities and intricacies of working with this structural from.

Safety inspection service

Oasis structural engineers carry out safety inspections in accordance with the Department of Education, Australian Standards and Building Code requirements

We can also inspect other structures and equipment to save costs whilst on site.

A recent example of this was to design and certify the support structure, connections and safety harness for the diving apparatus at Presbyterian Ladies College swimming pool

It is vitally important that safety audits and structural inspections are performed by a structural engineer with experience in tension structure construction.

Our unique experience is one of the reasons Oasis is engaged by major corporations including Bunnings Warehouses, Westfield Shopping Centres and Melbourne Airport. All inspections are covered by $1,000,000 Professional Indemnity insurance.

A fully comprehensive report is supplied with each inspection. This details any areas of concern with instructions for repair or rectification.

Inspections can be booked in advance or programmed for regular rotation. An urgent inspection can be arranged at any time.

Cleaning

Oasis pioneered the cleaning of shade sails. We provide this service mostly to schools and kindergartens where safety is the main concern .  We are exempt  from current water restrictions however conditions apply.

  • All cleaning is performed at our premises in accordance with an environmentally approved process and discharge system
  • High pressure cleaning equipment is used at a setting we know will not damage any of the materilas used in manufacture of our sails
  • We use environmentally safe and biodegradeable cleaning agents that also won’t harm the sail, including sewing thread, PVC and seat belt webbing
  • Sails are laid onto porous rubber matting to protect the fabric whilst walking on them and to allow dirt to be flushed through the knitted shade fabric effectively.
  • Both sides of the sail fabric are cleaned and rinsed with immaculate results
  • Naturally as sails approach the end of their servicable life we take great care. Ultimately its not always possible to clean as replacement is economically the wiser choice.
